The (Unofficial) Curse Wheel Record

  • Week 3, 2025

Who did the Curse Wheel curse?

    • First Spin: #16, but Perna didn’t have a #16
    • Second Spin: #15, but Perna also didn’t have a #15
    • Third Spin: Green Bay Packers (#3)

Did the Curse Wheel curse succeed?

    • YES; the Packers lost to the Cleveland Browns 10-13

    How Bad Was the Curse?

    • The Packers lost to the Browns. Isn’t that enough?
    • The Packers were held to 3-0 lead by halftime
    • Packers were intercepted with 3:18 to go in the 4th, which led to a Browns TD, tieing it up 10-10
    • Browns would block a Packers field goal with 0:27 left in the 4th, allowing the Browns to hustle to get a final field goal.`
  • Week 2, 2025

Who did the Curse Wheel curse?

    • Philadelphia Eagles (#7)

Did the Curse Wheel curse succeed?

    • NO; the Eagles defeated the Kansas City Chiefs 20-17

    How Bad Was the Curse?

    • It doesn’t appear there were any residual curses on the Eagles this week. The Eagles escaped. That said, this clearly pissed off the Curse Wheel because it has been accurate for at least four weeks afterwards.
    • And no, Saquon Barkley poor stats this season was the Madden Curse, totally different curse.
  • Week 1, 2025

Who did the Curse Wheel curse?

    • Cincinnati Bengals (#16)

Did the Curse Wheel curse succeed?

    • NO; the Bengals defeated the Cleveland Browns 17-16

    How Bad Was the Curse?

    • It was actually a very close match, with the Bengals down 14-16 in the 4th Quarter
    • HOWEVER: Joe Burrow also suffered a potential season-ending turf toe injury on Week 2, meaning maybe the curse was delayed. Perna considers this to be a successful curse.
  • Curse Wheel Criteria

I don’t think Perna himself ever defined what realy counts as a successful or failed curse. For this website I will set up my own criteria; you may or may not agree with it, but that’s OK.

SUCCESSFUL CURSE = that team lost that week, period. It may also include one of the following:

    • the loss came in a heartwrenching manner
    • the loss was due to silly or boneheaded mistakes that the team wouldn’t have made any other week
    • a key player gets horribly injured, maybe derailing their entire season
    • some other obvious misfortune occurs

FAILED CURSE = that team won that week, period. To me it doesn’t matter if:

    • any random player gets injured; injuries happen all the time
    • something devastates the team AFTER that week; curses only matter that week only
    • the power of some other curse is mistaken for the Curse Wheel’s evil; there are multiple curses out there, y’know

Again, you may have your own criteria over the minutiae, but I think we can all agree that generally speaking: “loss = successful curse” and “win = failed curse”.

Finally: I’m doing this website for fun. If you want to support someone, go visit Perna’s website Benchwarmers Shop and buy a silly t-shirt. That said, this site has no affiliation with Brandon Perna, nor do I claim any.
